What Kind of Woman does Boudoir?

Whether you’ve just encountered boudoir photography for the first time or you’ve been aware of it for awhile now, we know that for some women, seeing these photos might bring up the question: “What kind of woman does a boudoir session!?” Is she just super into herself, vain and conceited and looking for any way to promote herself? OR is she shallow and insecure, desperately hoping to feel better about herself through an external ego boost?

The truth is, our amazing clients are neither of these, not conceited or shallow, but rather women on a journey of self-discovery, learning more about themselves, discovering the true beauty that lies within.

We’ve found that all of the women who walk through our studio doors can be categorized in two different ways. She is either The Self-Love Student or The Empowered Teacher. And she may even be a combination of both. Now when you hear “student” and “teacher,” your mind may immediately think that this is an age thing but we beg to differ.

“The error of youth is to believe that intelligence is a substitute for experience, while the error of age is to believe experience is a substitute for intelligence”

— Lyman Bryson

So let's explore what kind of woman does a boudoir session with an open mind. . .

The Self Love Student

The self-love student can be of any age, body type, and background. She is seeking a boudoir session because the Queen needs her crown fixed and properly placed on her head. What I mean is that she is looking to see herself with more compassion and acceptance.

She may be a stay-at-home mom of a crew of tiny beings and she has been in comfy leggings for the last 12+ months. She used to get all dolled up and remembers feeling beautiful, however, it can be a little harder to remember as the years go by.

She could be a hard-ass worker in the corporate world. Surrounded in a “man’s world” standing shoulder to shoulder in masculine energy every day. She has no time for her femininity and wants to rediscover her softer side and explore her sensuality.

She may be recently divorced after many years. She’s looking for a “pick me up” as she is redefining her life. She may be reclaiming her power back by pushing herself out of her own comfort zone. She seriously had never thought in her wildest dreams that she would be interested in a boudoir session, but here she is, ready.

She could be in any phase of a transformation. Maybe this is to kick off big life changes, continue growth, or celebrate a milestone. She’s using boudoir as an award or souvenir for all that she has to accomplished.

She may be a single lady. She realizes that she needs to love herself before she can love someone else. She wants to feel comfortable in her own skin as a woman, no longer a girl.

The Empowered Teacher

Just like the self-love student, the empowered teacher knows no age, body type, and background. She is coming to The Boudoir Studio because, girl. . . listen, Queens deserve pampering and we can all learn something from them.

She may be a stay-at-home mom holding down the fort and leading the command of her tiny army. A boudoir session helps her stay in tune with her femininity and brings a fun spark to her marriage.

She could be a hard-ass worker in the corporate world looking to decorate her walk-in closet with her boudoir photos. She really enjoys getting ready for work with these powerful images right next to her mirror.

She may be recently divorced after many years. She has been dreaming of being free and now that it’s here, she is living her life by her own rules. She is no longer missing great opportunities and now is living life completely and unapologetically on her own terms.

She could be in any phase of transformation. She knows the power of documenting her journey, not just for herself . . . but to inspire other women too. She understands the power of boudoir photography and, if done right, knows it can have lasting life-changing effects.

She may be a single lady. She knows that her femininity deserves to be celebrated. She finds great liberation in a boudoir session and hopes to inspire women to embrace their femininity, not for someone else, but FOR themselves.

Are you a student or a teacher?

We’re going to give you the answer here - you are actually both! In order to be in touch with your own strength, your own femininity, your own sexuality and your own beauty, you must be both a student and a teacher. You are a student as you tune into who you are, pausing to listen and learn from the beauty and truth within. And you are a teacher when you take that knowledge and change your thoughts, your attitudes, and your beliefs to reflect what you’ve learned about yourself. While at times you may relate to feeling like a student more and other times you feel more like a teacher, the ebb and flow of learning and growth is an ongoing process. And at some point, doing a boudoir session will just fit the process, for one reason or another.

That’s what we’re here for, to work with our beautiful clients during whatever part of the self-love journey they find themselves in. We photograph every single type of woman. We are a judgment-free zone and no matter who you are - your job, your age, your body, your skin tone, your sexuality - you are welcomed here and you are celebrated here. All of us could use more ways to love ourselves and we all deserve to be pampered like the Queens we are.

Let’s talk about how you can love yourself more through our no-obligation Discovery Call:
