My post session glow hasn’t faded
Ready to go beyond boudoir?
Erotica, by BSNY, is the next level past boudoir. It allows you to explore sexuality and intimacy beyond traditional boudoir. In a boudoir session, you are owning the power of your beauty, whereas in an erotica session, you own the power of your pleasure as our photographers capture you and your partner(s) in real, sexually intimate moments.
Our very first couple to do an erotica shoot with us several months ago, not only took the brave step to do the shoot, but also took the time to write about their experience almost immediately after. Our very own Teresa (who manages our Facebook group, The Boudoir Lounge) and her partner, Jim, gave us some incredible feedback and insight into the power of doing an erotica shoot! This post is part two, Teresa’s perspective, written the day of her shoot. Here’s what she had to say:
Walking out of Boudoir Studios New York, I felt a sense of accomplishment and relief. We had actually gone through with our couple’s erotica session! The preparation process was thorough and, having already been a boudoir client, I trusted that we were in caring and capable hands. I’d be lying, though, if I said I wasn’t still nervous walking in this morning. That tension quickly eased as we started talking and laughing with our photographers who guided us into each portion of the shoot with clear coaching and unlimited support. Time flew by easily. Once we were back in the car and my partner asked me, “What should we do now?” I was starving and ready to grab lunch, so session day turned into a full on day date.
We took a short drive down the road to Fairport Village Inn where we enjoyed our meal and conversation:
Teresa: Soooo…. How was that for you?
Jim: Good. I mean, I’ve acted before [in local theater and film], so it felt similar to that.
T: It felt like acting?
J: What we did together didn’t feel like acting, but having other people in the room capturing it and giving direction was familiar. They were doing their job and we were doing ours. It wasn’t the photographers interacting or participating with us.
T: I felt that way, too. We were able to experience each other the way we usually do, just in the studio. My eyes were either closed or looking at you most of the time, so I really didn’t think about the photographers being there as often as I imagined I would. We’re pretty open and comfortable with our sexuality, so I knew doing an erotica session would be fine, but I didn’t anticipate it being as authentic as it was. I didn’t feel like I was posing or putting on a show for the camera.
J: It was encouraging to see some of the images on the camera as we went along. They look great.
T: Oh my goodness! Right?! I loved that! You’re so sexy. What are you going to do with the photos once we have them?
J: I don’t know. You’re really the one that was interested in the photos. I was here for the experience. I’ll probably keep them in my phone, for my wallpaper. Christmas cards for our parents?
T: Probably not Christmas cards for our parents. I definitely want them in my phone. There will likely be some I’ll use on social media. We’ll hang one in our closet and maybe in the master bathroom? Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it. When I brought up the idea of this shoot, you said that men are always just props in boudoir and erotica. Women are the focus. Do you still feel that way?
J: I’m undecided and can’t wait to see the finished product(s). I can say with confidence that I never felt like a prop, but I know who and what I would be looking at or focusing on in the photos, and it still won’t be me, haha.
T: I never thought you were a prop! I cannot wait to have sexy photos of you. It may be more common or visible for women to have sexy photos of themselves, but it’s powerful to see your partner owning their sensuality whatever their gender! I’m visually attracted to you in real life, so of course those images are going to be a turn on. I’m sure there are plenty of people who wish they had erotic photos of their male partners. Do you think the photographers directed you effectively as a man in that space?
J: They were considerate of the physical involvement that was needed - checking in to make sure arousal and intensity was at a level that allowed us to keep going. Getting or maintaining an erection in an unconventional setting is something I thought about going into this. Keeping a pace that was natural for us made it less of an issue.
T: I can see how that could feel like a complication. You did great though! How should we pass the time until our image reveal appointment?
J: I’d like to go home and pick up where we left off at the studio. . .
Which is exactly what we did. My post session glow hasn’t faded. Doing a couple’s erotica session was a celebration of our love. Like so many partners who have been together for years, we easily get caught up in our parenting, day to day tasks, and all the various roles we fill to make our life run smoothly. It’s vital to create space where we can pause to look at each other and remember we are here in this moment because there isn’t anyone else we’d rather walk through the world next to. Taking the plunge into erotica together allowed us to be intentional about prioritizing that cornerstone passion on which the rest is built.
