Your shoot-planning appointment at Boudoir Studios New York: Part iI
by Francesca Flansburg
meeting with your photographers
Last week, we shared with you the benefits of visiting our dedicated studio space during your shoot-planning appointment. However, even more important than checking out our beautiful space is meeting with your photographer for the first time! This is the point at which your mutual connection truly begins. Your photographer, Asif or Andrea, will get to know you and what you are looking for out of this transformational, exciting journey through the world of boudoir. Likewise, you will get to vibe with your photographer in person, getting a feel for what it is like to be with the individual who is going to capture your essence and beauty through their camera lens.
The best way to get to know your photographer will be to meet with them in person and talk specifically about what you ultimately want to get out of the experience. However, you can also get to know them a little bit through their blog posts:
ANDREA: “Why I Left My Nursing Job to be a Boudoir Photographer”
ASIF: “I’ve Been Living With A Secret”
When you meet with Asif or Andrea for the first time, they will know what to ask in order to discover what you’re looking to accomplish through your photo shoot. If you have a clear idea of what you want to express through your images, this will be a perfect opportunity to communicate that. Using their wealth of experience, Asif and Andrea will be able to fine tune and clarify your wishes through this initial planning discussion. If you are less certain about what you want, that’s perfectly okay- because Asif and Andrea know what to ask in order to more precisely define what it is you want. Together, you will come up with the next steps toward creating a boudoir experience, including the final images, that match with your unique and specific needs.
You may want to bring a list of questions with you on shoot-planning day. Not sure which questions to ask? Take a look at the following list of potential questions and topics to discuss. Jot down anything that speaks to you- but remember that even without a single question or talking point in mind, our fab photographers have you covered. They are experts in leading the shoot-planning appointment so that when you leave, you’re ready to take the next step in the process.
Do I need to bring my own outfits and/or props or will they be provided?
Who will be present in the studio on session day?
Can I bring a friend?
How long will the shoot take and will I be able to take break periods?
Will I have a say in how my hair and makeup are done?
What should or shouldn’t I bring to my session?
Can we listen to music during the photo shoot?
What is the studio’s cancellation or rescheduling policy?
How will I know how to pose?
How will I know how to smile, when not to smile, whether or not to close my eyes, etcetera (a.k.a. what do I do with my face?)
Where will my images end up and how do I have control over who does and does not see them?
What is the turnaround time from session day to receiving my images/products?
How are my images edited?
How can I be sure that I won’t be asked to pose in a way that makes me uncomfortable?
How many outfits should I plan to bring?
How can you help me ease any nerves I might have on session day?
Should I bring water or any other snacks/beverages?
How will you feature my best qualities and/or minimize any body issues that make me uncomfortable?
What should I be doing to prepare in the days and weeks ahead?
What if I don’t like one single image after all is said and done? (by the way, this won’t happen…but please feel free to ask us this question!)
For couples boudoir:
How will we know what to do/ how to pose?
Do our outfits need to match up?
Is hair and makeup included for each of us?
What if my partner and I have different comfort levels? How will you help us compromise?
What if my partner gets ‘excited’ while we’re shooting?
If you have other questions or things you’d like to bring up in your shoot-planning appointment, we will be thrilled to discuss them with you. As always, there is no right or wrong when it comes to how you’d like to experience the transformational, wonderful world of boudoir at Boudoir Studios New York.
